Governing Articles

In 2016–2017, Akatakyie USA, together with executives and trustees, launched a bold initiative: the creation of the OWASS Endowment Fund. Inspired by the spirit of President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 words — “We choose to go to the moon in this decade… not because it is easy but because it is hard” — the Akatakyie Brotherhood embraced the challenge of building a $1 million permanent fund for their alma mater.

The Fund’s purpose is not to spend donations immediately, but to invest them wisely. Once fully endowed, the E-Fund could yield an annual return of $50,000 at 5% interest, supporting scholarships, technology adoption, and strategic projects at OWASS in perpetuity.

Since its founding, the E-Fund has grown steadily. As of August 2025, contributions total $614,860, with a market value exceeding $807,000 across Merrill Lynch, Fidelity, and Bank of America accounts. Much of this progress has come through the leadership of the Board of Directors, who have contributed 86% of the total funds, alongside affiliate members and global alumni.

The ultimate goal is clear: to reach the $1 million target by the 2026 Akatakyie USA Reunion in Manassas, VA, where this journey began. Through redeemed pledges, new contributions, and corporate partnerships, the OWASS E-Fund continues to grow — a living testament to the unity, determination, and legacy of Owareans worldwide.
